Fanning Middle School Redevelopment

Fanning Middle School is a brick building built in 1906 with hardwood floors throughout and stained glass that is original to the building. The former school is being converted into 62 apartments. The Tower grove South apartment complex will be equally divided between market-rate rents and affordable housing rates.

The project will be financed by state and federal tax credits, for historic buildings and low-income housing. The 115-year-old school building will hopefully be listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The 81,367 square-foot property will include 27 two-bedroom apartments and 35 one-bedroom apartments.

Insight

“The building is 115 years old, and it’s still a beautiful building on the inside. We thought this was a good opportunity to add another project to our portfolio while helping out the neighborhood as well.”
